Lentil Soup شوربة عدس

Ramadan Kareem!! What is a staple of Ramadan other than shorabat 3adas?! This is a simple basic recipe for lentil soup. Some Syrians make their lentil soup with ground meat but i never grew up with that and so my recipe doesnt contain ground meat but feel free to add other ingredients.

In a pot add oil and then add finely chopped carrots.
Add finely chopped onions and cook until all the water is cooked off that was released from the onions and carrots.
Add in a maggi cube and the lentil and rice mixture.
after everything is mixed add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil
when the soup is almost done cooking add the cumin and arabi mixed spice. Make sure to keep stirring while the soup is boiling so that the lentils don't stick to the bottom and burn.
Serve warm with a squirt of lemon juice and fried pita bread.

Written Recipe:

2/3 cups of small red lentils
1 tablespoon of masri short grain rice.
1/3 cup of chopped carrot
1 medium onion chopped finely
2 tablespoons of oil
1 maggi cube
4 cubs of water
1/2 teaspoon of cumin
1/8 teaspoon of arabic mixed spice
1/8 teaspoon of tumeric (optional)

In a pan add oil, onions and carrots and cook until all the water has evaporated. Next add the lentils and rice, maggi cube and water. When the soup is almost done cooking add in the cumin and arabic spice and serve. Be sure to stir occasionally so that the lentils dont stick to the bottom of the pan
